Chanting om, a powerful seed-syllable is an effective method developed by ancient sages to induce a state of self-hypnossis (alpha-level) and keep one’s mind in meditative mood.
Chanting of OM (known also as pranava) creates vibrations in human body. This mantra has regular, low frequency that has healing power and pacifying impact on nervous system.
It is a scientific fact that people harmonize
with the sound heard (resonance theory). When a sound enters eardrum it
progresses towards brain and its frequency is changed to electrical impulse.
The impulse has impact on auditory center, stimulates neurons what in turn has
its effect in production of various hormons. Thus, the high irregular frequency
has a disasterous impact on nervous system while low, regular one has beneficial
effect, bringing peace and comfort. Sound is a vibration. It is also proved
that certain vibrations have healing effects as about 90% of human diseases are

in a similar manner- continuous practice of om chanting affects central nervous

Indeed, Om is a mantra constructed out of three sounds : a,u, m. “A”
sound when chanted with awareness can be felt in the lower part of the body,
“u” in the middle part, “m” in the upper part. Another benefit of chanting of
pranava is its self-hypnotic effect that brings one into the alpha-level, a
meditative state in which one can give suggestions to his/her subconscious mind
